Questions and Answers:

Q: What is Shoreline Writing Services?

A: Shoreline Writing Services is a one-on-one writing and editing consultation service. We provide writing and editing assistance for a variety of projects, and we assist student writers, authors, and other clients in meeting their goals.

Whether you are working on a one-time project for a deadline, or wish to receive ongoing assistance from a writing coach/tutor to improve your writing skills, Shoreline Writing Services can meet your writing and editing needs.

Q: What is a writing coach or consultant?

A: A writing coach or consultant is an experienced writer and editor who works alongside clients to help them achieve their writing goals. A writing coach will help a client identify and correct problems and weaknesses in a written piece, and, if so desired, provide tips and exercises to strengthen their work. This can be done on a per-project basis, such as a cover letter, research paper, short story, or book project, or a long-term basis for general writing improvement. Writing coaches can also help clients prepare manuscripts for publication.

Q: How does Shoreline Writing Services work, and how do I start?

A: After you contact us, we will set up an appointment to discuss your goals, and if appropriate, review samples of your writing. Based on this initial consultation, we will develop a plan to meet your project deadline or address your writing concerns. If you are local to Connecticut, meetings can be set up in person. Otherwise, we can arrange to work online.

Q: Can this be done online?

A: Yes. If you are local to Connecticut, you can schedule an initial consultation in person. Subsequent work may be submitted, reviewed, and returned online. If you are not local to Connecticut, please email shorelinewritingservices@gmail.com and we will make arrangements.

Q: What is your fee?

A: Each hour-long session will cost $40. This includes reviewing a client’s materials and making suggestions for the written document, manuscript, essay, or research paper. It may also include offering exercises for practice, research assistance, and advising a client on preparing a proposal and locating an agent for publication if that is so desired. Each session is specifically tailored to a client’s needs.

Shoreline Writing Services will also prepare, write, edit, and review non-technical documents. Fee to be determined by length of document and number of hours required.

Q: What types of writing do you work with?

A: Shoreline Writing Services can help students with research papers, SAT and college application essays, or general writing skills on any topic. We can assist adults with resumes, cover letters, or documents of application. We assist those of all ages who are writing for pleasure, whether or not they intend to seek publication, with short stories, essays, fiction, biography, and nonfiction. We can assist businesses with various documents such as advertising brochures, loan applications, or informational pieces. We cannot assist with poetry, screenplays, or technical writing, such as computer manuals or scientific articles.
